Flying Dutchman

Flying Dutchman

As a fan of vintage high performance and race boats, here is a cool add for some classic tunnel hulls...

He just finished the paint job part of
the restoration and was moving it into the garage for the mounting of
the motor...

Re: Flying Dutchman

Not that I know of... however there are still quite a few Magnum Missile 16's around in South Florida. Similar looking hulls; I wonder if Anonow had anything to do with the Dutchman?

Re: Flying Dutchman

Geoff, the Aronow Missile's hull(only) was pulled from a wooden full tunnel of that era, that was a race tunnel designed by a fellow named Shultz. Testament of this was given by an older gentleman over on Scream & Fly, that had first hand knowledge & was at the factory when it happened. The Dutchmans were concieved in Ohio & have no heritage to the Missile at all. There were quite a few full tunnel small experimental boat manufacturer start-ups back in the late 60's, early 70's. Some sold/marketed better than others. Don Aronow was pretty good at marketing what he built. He made his best money at developing boat companies & selling them, sometimes selling a company more than once, than in actually building & selling the boats themselves.

Re: Flying Dutchman

Thanks... that's some great info. I thought there may have been some Aronow provenance in the Dutchman but I was wrong. I never owned a Dutchman but did own a Missile 16' with a 150 Merc. (inline 6) One of the fastest boats in Biscayne Bay in it's day... fast then but not compared to todays standards. Yep, those were the days!
